Well since he’s unable, he leaves Steven under the gem’s supervision but still hangs around to provide emotional support and such. I just feel like he’s taking the best possible course of action given the situation?

Greg’s actually a pretty good dad tho? Like even though Steven lives with the gems he still takes pretty good care of Steven? Emotionally at least

For a single parent who literally lives in a van, he always worries about Steven. He knows he can’t do a lot, he’s struggling. So, also knowing his son is part alien (basically), he leaves them in the care of the people who LITERALLY knew Rose for centuries. He always visits, always wants to do the best for his son. He went to dinner with Alexandrite, drove Connie home in the snow, and is constantly worried because extraterrestrial beings are kinda trying to kill his son??? He’s a human. And he can’t exactly fight against super advanced aliens. He also knows that Rose wants Steven to take care of his family, and the whole entire earth. I don’t know exactly what more he could do for his son.

Things we know about about Greg:

• Greg is a single dad
• He quit his music career and bought a car wash to support his son
  
• Children are expensive, and because the gems don’t have human money, he has to spend all that he can to support his child, even if it means living in his van.
• He is human, steven is both human and gem. He can’t take equal care of a mixed child without the gems helping train him and understand his gem culture.
  

Saying he’s a ‘manchild’ may not be far from the truth but he is a damn good dad and a really great character for children to see who are growing up in mixed homes.
